curator's statement

“What makes people despair is that they try to find a universal meaning to the whole of life, and then end up by saying it is absurd, illogical, empty of meaning. There is not one big, cosmic meaning for all, there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, like an individual novel, a book for each person… To give as much meaning to one’s life as possible seems right to me… in the face of each human being, I act democratically and humanly. I give each human being his due. I disregard class and possessions. It is the value of their spirit, of their human qualities I pay my respect to, and to their needs as far as I am able to fulfill them. If all of us acted in unison as I act individually, there would be no wars and no poverty.”

- Anais Nin, The Journals of Anais Nin, Volume 1, 1966

Silent Revolution is about the home set in the home.

A digital camera has been used to document everyday life over a three month period.

Friends and family are photographed. The camera is shared. Others are invited to exhibit. Stories are interwoven.

The camera documents the shifting states of positive and negative reflection and refraction.

The home is a sanctuary.

You are invited into my home.

“You are welcome” is a poignant statement in a climate of increasing fear. Silent Revolution for me is about personal aspirations to create positive change, and my starting point is in the home. There are many. It could begin on the streets. For me, the place of action has been in the home. That’s where I dream.

The space of the home is extended as it is shared.

Share a moment, a story, a cup of tea, a sanctum.
