The McQuails

The McQuails
The McQuail family represents a distinguished lineage amongst the dwindling population of the bird-headed folk of the Wiggletail Prairy. Since the collapse of their fortune they have been forced to appear at festivals and parades simply to sustain themselves and their estate. However they do not parade their selves purely for the entertainment of humans, rather they provide an education into the intricacies of the culture of their maligned and misrepresented brethren.
It is a bird-headed custom to herald one’s approach with harmonic bell-ringing. Whilst some of the rites of these quiet, ancient people may at first seem strange, they are actually most refined of character and hospitable to strangers. They come equipped with their own portable dinner table and candelabra to entertain guests in any circumstance and enough seed to share.

The McQuail family also appear in Sanctum Theatre’s bower: family portrait. bower is a simple show that is easily translated to many spaces and circumstances.
The audience are invited to attend the 50th Anniversary Annual General Meeting of the Royal Society for the Protection and Furtherance of the Culture and Livelihood of the Birdheaded Minority, (R.S.P.F.C.L.B.M). After the formalities are dealt with, such as attendance, the agenda for this meeting involves a slideshow and a brief overview of the history of the bird people, particularly upon the Wiggletail Prairy, and the Societies fifty year struggle for the rights of the bird-headed minority.
But the real business will be dealt with after a visit the McQuails to experience their hospitality and learn about their culture. The audience are briefed on some techniques how to deal with an attack by human vigilantes, advice they had best heed.
