1,000 Star Project (Banyule 2020)

Every year in the 4th week of October we recognise the talent of Australian children, their contribution to society and their rights by celebrating Children’s Week across the nation.

This year, the Australian Children’s Week theme is: Children have the right to choose their own friends and safely connect with others.

We are encouraging children and the community to make a lantern and help us illuminate these dark times!

The Thousand Star Project is inspired by tradition of keeping a candle burning in the window for a visitor. The lantern in the window signifies that, while we may now be isolated, tomorrow we will be together. It is a symbol of resilience and hope.

Star & Jar Packs

Make a Star or Jar Lantern at home and hang it in your window!

Register online to participate in the Thousand Star Zoom Tutorial and / or to receive your star pack (age 6+) or a jar pack (ages 1-5).

Younger children will need guidance. But remember, you don’t need to be a child to make a lantern … everyone is invited to take part in the project!
